Small Closet Organization Ideas

Today I’m sharing how I began to organize my (very) small closet. My closet only features a top shelf, and a half middle shelf. One side is taken up by plastic drawers full of swim suits + athletic wear. The other side is covered in shoes! I ran out of room for basically anything.

So, I started with organizing my shoes. I bought two 4-tier shoe racks, that were only $7 each from Walmart!! They get the job done, and takes less than 5 minutes to put together. It’s the best, most inexpensive way to start organizing!

1) RACKS:

GARMENT ROLLING RACK

Consider buying yourself a clothes rolling rack! I’ve loved using this one (above) for planning my outfits for the week, and now use it to plan out my try-on hauls or outfits for collabs for the upcoming week! Either way, you can either store your clothes, move them, or get rid of the extra pieces you don’t use! I like to make things affordable especially if I’m testing something out, and this clothing rack was from Amazon and currently under $30 (and has been for the year+ that I’ve owned this). This one is in colors “white and chrome.”

2) STORAGE:

GREY STORAGE BAGS (pack of 3) // UNDERGARMENT ORGANIZER / DIVIDER (2 pack)

These bins/storage organizers have been life-savers as far as saving space goes. It makes it so much easier to find things and store seasonal items away! These grey storage bins from Amazon come in a pack of 3 and are large, foldable bins that can store clothes, bedding, comforters, and more! I also love that they have a clear window in front so you can easily see which items you’re pulling. The foldable feature makes it easier to store these bins in smaller spaces such as under your bed, in the closet or on a shelf! I’ve used mine for seasonal bedding, duvets and pillows that I swap out. I also use it to store my sweaters, and sorority shirts that I don’t wear, but want to keep!

The undergarment drawer organizer is SO amazing for keeping your underwear and socks neatly placed and ready to grab. It’s also from Amazon and comes in a pack of 2. They’re also collapsible, and you can order yours in the 16-cell or 24-cell (or both!).

Blush Pink Tufted Ottoman (similar)

I know that ottoman’s can vary by price, but thankfully I found this one from Home Goods for only $55! I linked a similar blush tufted ottoman (with storage) here, and it’s under $100! My idea behind it was to find something that I can temporarily use (like sitting on it to put on shoes) or to use for storage, especially for seasonal items or accessories!

Stackable Headband Holder // 2-Tier Bracelet Display Holder // Plastic Clutch Purse Divider/Organizer

Next, sitting on top of the built-in shelf, I display my headbands, bracelets, drop earrings, and typically next to that—I display 2 of my purses/small clutches (if there’s room). I have 2 stands for my headbands and jewelry, but this one was the only height that fit on this shelf. I will link another similar headband holder from Amazon (only $16).

To the very right of the shelf, I have a clear and rose gold organizing bin that holds all of my winter accessories (mainly gloves and beanies). Linked another decorative storage bin from Amazon, here.

3) HOOKS:

Accordion Style Gold Brass Hook Rack

Target does it again with this accordion style hook rack — it’s only $17 and a cute touch to my room. The brass looks more gold in person, and it’s super sturdy! Although I don’t always have this many purses in one place (I typically have them spread out in different locations based on purse type), but I do have so many purses, so I’m glad I found something that has several hooks on it, to where my bags also can’t get tangled!

Over-the-Door Steel Hanging Rack

Inside my closet (also in my office room), I have my wide brim hats hanging on thumb tacks. Obviously a more simple tactic for giving your closet a more clean, decorative display. Hanging on the outside of my closet (right photo), I have a steel, rose gold over-the-door hanging hook rack that I use for my baseball caps and hats. I try to only keep a couple of hats on there to keep it from looking cluttered. You can find the silver colored hook rack here on Amazon.

27” Target Hook Rack

I’ve used this hook rack from Target for yearsssss. This is where I place my longer statement necklaces, my overnight bags, and belts. It’s great because it takes up almost zero space, and has plenty of hooks for multiple items!

I’ll update this post once more progress has been made regarding closet organization + affordable finds! Have any questions? Feel free to comment!
